HOLLY KNOX RHAME - STATEMENT - second try
The goal of my practice is to ultimately reclaim my own history through the construction of a space for that history to inhabit. The act of building a landscape serves as the process by which all events pertaining to my specific history, past present and future, get reconfigured and thus become malleable. This Malleable History, juxtaposed with the master narrative becomes inherently subversive and calls into question why we tell the stories (or histories) we tell not just to our kids, but to ourselves. The refusal to be controlled by the rigidity of a master narrative, whether that master narrative is propagated by parents, friends, spouses, institutions, or governments ect…, is a truly vital act. The acknowledgement of the essential fluid quality of our own histories as well as our collective histories is necessary to the continued survival of culture/voice/individual.
